British Deepthroat Strikes Again!

The London Times has obtained and published another British secret report from the pre-Iraq planning period. You can view the transcript here. I highly suggest reading the entire report (and the Downing Street Memo, if you haven’t already). Here are a few sections that jumped out at me when I read the newest memo:

“US military planning unambiguously takes as its objective the removal of Saddam Hussein's regime, followed by elimination if Iraqi WMD.”

“US views of international law vary from that of the UK and the international community. Regime change per se is not a proper basis for military action under international law. But regime change could result from action that is otherwise lawful.”

“A post-war occupation of Iraq could lead to a protracted and costly nation-building exercise. As already made clear, the US military plans are virtually silent on this point.”

Thank you to the British Deepthroat(s) who are releasing this information. If only America had the guts to do the same…I’m sure the White House contains ten times as many Downing Street Memos as the Brits have!
