A Memo to Voters in the 8th Congressional District...

Rep. Hostetler, of Indiana's 8th Congressional District, has created quite a stir in Congress with the following quote uttered during a debate over a bill to curb religious proselytizing in the military:

"Like a moth to a flame, Democrats can't help themselves when it comes to denigrating and demonizing Christians."

In the past, Rep. Hostetler has also stated that Congress should not enforce Court decisions it does not agree with because "Courts have no Army or Navy." He was also entrenched in the battle over the 10 Commandment display in front of a southern Indiana district court to the extent that he supported disobeying the Court order.

Rep. Hostetler is a fierce proponent of the right of Christians to free expression (even if it steps on the rights of others), which is an increasingly popular viewpoint in this country. But when he resorts to name-calling and generalities such he did yesterday, he proves that he is petty and judgmental--neither of which make a good Congressman.

For the last time...Republicans do not have a monopoly on Christianity, and Democrats are not Godless attackers of Christians by definition. Please keep your tongue in check, Rep. Hostetler.

It is so frustrating to see militant Christians make themselves out to be victims of our culture, when indeed it is their hope and intention to attack the freedoms and rights that make America great. Meanwhile, they are free to live and worship as they wish.

In the end, he's just a politician (if more misguided than most) - Everything he says is for strategic positioning. He'll say just about anything to give the opposition party a black eye, even if it means diminishing his own faith.

Agreed. I don't understand why normal, nonmilitant Christians do not object to having their faith used as a political wedge. It does diminish the faith, and it creates political ultimatums that people must follow to be considered part of THEIR OWN FAITH.
