Plan B...Hire a New Women's Health Chief

Susan Wood, the FDA’s former women’s health chief, has resigned. She resigned because she her department was no longer governed by science and evidence. She resigned because she felt politics and morals should not dictate which medicines Americans may ingest. She resigned because the recommendations of a panel of scientists were disregarded and overturned by a political department head. She resigned because of the FDA chief’s ideological refusal to approve Plan B, the morning-after contraceptive pill.

And for this act of bravery in the face of Bush administration ideology, Indiana Politico gives Ms. Wood 51,000 thumbs-up...one for each unwanted pregnancy averted per year by the morning-after pill.
